Every protocol is a first-class source, and several can run in the same project.
| Protocol | Platforms | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| NDI | macOS, Windows, Linux | Network video, bundled runtime |
| DeckLink | macOS, Windows, Linux | SDI and HDMI capture and playback |
| Syphon | macOS | Zero-copy GPU texture sharing |
| Spout | Windows | Zero-copy GPU texture sharing |
| AVFoundation | macOS | Webcams and capture devices |
| DirectShow | Windows | Webcams and WDM capture devices |
| MediaFoundation | Windows | Webcams and capture devices |
| Screen capture | macOS, Windows | Displays and windows |
| Test patterns | macOS, Windows, Linux | SMPTE bars and generative patterns |
Choose a protocol in the side panel, then pick a discovered source. NDI and Syphon sources are discovered continuously; capture devices refresh on demand.
If a source disappears, Multiviewer keeps the placement on the canvas and reconnects when the source returns. The placement, including its position and label, is preserved.
Syphon and Spout deliver a texture straight to the compositor, with no CPU copy. The other protocols deliver frames that the compositor uploads to the GPU once per frame.
